Where to Stay in the Stubai Valley

The Stubai Valley is one of those places that feels like a postcard — jagged mountain peaks, wildflower meadows, welcome alp-vibes… and stunning fresh air. But when you’ve got small children, what looks dreamy in photos doesn’t always translate into ease in real life. Knowing where to stay can make all the difference: less “Are we there yet?”, more “Wow, I’m so glad we came here.”

We recently spent time based in Milders and tested out some places so I could share what worked for us, plus a few other great picks depending on your budget, how much pampering you want, and how close to the action you want to be.

Where We Stayed: Brollerhof, Milders

We stayed at Brollerhof, a traditional farmhouse in Milders, just a short drive from Neustift. It was the perfect spot for us, combining spacious, family-friendly apartments with plenty to keep the kids entertained.

Why We Loved It:

  • Spacious apartment: We chose a two-bedroom apartment with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The owners had kitted it out with two travel cots, two high chairs, and even a kids’ bathroom stool and toilet seat for Big One— little touches that make travelling with small children so much easier.

  • Outdoor fun: There’s a large playground on-site with a huge trampoline, sandpit, slide, tunnels, footballs, and table tennis — endless entertainment for little adventurers.

  • Swimming pool: There’s a small outdoor pool for summer days (we sadly didn’t get a chance to use it, but it looked lovely!).

  • Animal encounters: The kids loved meeting the farm animals, including goats, guinea pigs, and ponies. Perfect for animal-loving families!

  • The location in Milders also worked really well — it’s close enough to Neustift for restaurants, shops, and activities, but peaceful enough to enjoy some quiet time after busy days exploring.

Other Family-Friendly Places to Stay in the Stubai Valley

Depending on what you like (luxury, flexibility, budget, ease), here are some other spots we researched and loved the sound of:

Elferblick Apartments

Modern, stylish apartments in a peaceful setting with panoramic mountain views. Ideal for families who want space and flexibility but still want facilities like a sauna and wellness area.

Hotel Bergcristall

A family-run hotel offering cosy rooms and apartments, plus a wellness area with an indoor pool. Great for families wanting a balance of comfort, relaxation, and easy access to outdoor activities.

Sporthotel Neustift

Perfect for families looking for a little more luxury, Sporthotel Neustift has spacious family rooms, a fantastic pool area, kids’ play spaces, and a restaurant offering flexible dining for little ones.

Hotel Kindl

A family-friendly hotel with dedicated kids’ facilities, including a playroom, children’s pool, and organised activities. It’s an especially good option if you’re travelling with very young children.

Hotel Forster’s Naturresort

A beautiful eco-focused resort blending luxury with nature. There’s an outdoor pool, kids’ activities, and plenty of space to relax while being surrounded by the stunning Stubai mountains.

How to Choose the Right Place For You

Here are a few quick questions to help you figure out which stay suits your family best (because everyone’s “ideal holiday” looks different):

  1. Do you want meals onsite, or do you prefer cooking yourself?
If little ones get hangry, having breakfast or dinner onsite can save stress. Apartments are great for flexible eating and snack emergencies.

  2. How important are extras like pools, playgrounds, animal contact?
If your kids need play-space every morning (ours do), those features are golden. If you’re okay with just access to trails and views, you can compromise.

  3. Do you want to be walk-in or car-accessible?
Mountain roads can be twisty — sometimes staying closer to bigger villages (like Neustift/Milders) is better, especially with kids, luggage, and tired adults.

  4. Budget vs comfort balance:
Do you want the rustic, authentic alpine farmhouse feel, or are you looking to indulge a bit with wellness/spa/hotel luxuries? There are good options at both ends.

  5. Seasonal things to check:
Some places are quieter or partially closed in off-season; pools might only open in summer; accessibility for certain hikes or roads depends on snow and weather.

Our Verdict

We stayed at Brollerhof in Milders and it hit all the right notes — comfort, character, kids being happy out & about without us feeling stretched. If I were planning again, I’d still swear by a farmhouse-apartment combo like that — enough space, enough amenities, and the kind of place where “home time” feels like part of the holiday (not just a bed to collapse in).

If you’re aiming for pure adventure, pick somewhere closer to trailheads. If you want downtime and slow mornings, maybe go for more luxury or a spa-hotel just outside the busiest villages. Whatever you choose, Stubai delivers magic.
